It began in 1990, when famed Californian developer and golfer, Don Koll, commissioned Jack Nicklaus to design the 27-hole Palmilla resort. The success of that venture lead to two more Nicklaus-designed golf courses over the years: the El Dorado and Cabo del Sol Ocean Course. The Palmilla resort itself consists of three 9-hole courses: the Arroyo Nine, the Mountain Nine and the newest addition, the Ocean Nine. In 1998, the Ocean Nine was ranked among one of the top public courses in North America.
